Worship
Mankind has been created by God for the sole purpose of worshipping Him. This brings glory and honor to Him, and fulfills our calling as people of the Book.
The Word of God is filled with passages underscoring the importance of worship. According to Scripture, worshipping God is the highest calling we have; worshipping idols is the gravest abomination we could commit. There is no middle ground with God in terms of worship. Nor can worship be half-hearted. As Jesus said during His magnificent entry into Jerusalem, "I tell you if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." (Luke 19:40)
Living Word Lutheran strives to worship the Lord from a Free Lutheran perspective, with simplicity and order, yet with a spiritual dimension that transcends the finite and lifts up the Body in praises to God our Heavenly Father, His Son our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit our Comforter. We do not subscribe to a high liturgy, but hold to the tenets as taught by Martin Luther. This includes the two basic cornerstones of faith: Law and Gospel – the Law to drive us to our knees in repentance and the Gospel to lift us up in the Grace and Mercy of God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Music
Many churches struggle with the issue of contemporary versus traditional music. We are not immune to this, but have come to the realization that (1) traditional hymns serve as one of the most valuable means to convey the gospel and Biblical truth, and (2) contemporary music gives vibrancy and meaning to a diverse congregation, especially those who find contemporary music speaking to their hearts.
Because of this, we practice a mixture of musical tastes, always including traditional hymns in our worship experience, yet regularly combining this with contemporary praise music that reflects the current generation of Christians seeking to be followers of Christ. However, in accordance with our stand on the inerrancy of Scripture, and the desire to teach pure Biblical truth to those who visit us and the children we are training up, all music performed must be in accord with Scripture, directed upward toward God, not downward toward man. The music also must not be discordant in such a manner that the focus on Christ is diffused, nor the attributes of God are maligned in any way.
We hope you take the opportunity to come visit us and to share with us the experience of worshipping our Creator, Redeemer and Comforter!
